Open Research Europe
CERN will soon host Open Research Europe (ORE), a flagship open-access publishing platform backed by the European Commission and multiple national funders. The move builds on CERN’s long-standing leadership in open science infrastructure and aims to provide a neutral, sustainable home for openly sharing research. What makes ORE particularly compelling is its “publish–review–curate” model: research is made available quickly, followed by transparent peer review where reports (and even reviewer identities) are openly shared. Even more significant, this is a diamond open access model—free to read and free to publish – helping remove both paywalls and author fees, and broadening participation in scholarly communication. With over 1,200 articles and thousands of contributors already, the platform is scaling up under CERN’s stewardship, reinforcing Europe’s push toward a more open, collaborative research ecosystem.
