Decentralised, Scholar-Led Publishing Platforms
Platforms that return control of scholarly publishing to the academic community – beyond commercial publishers – are gaining real momentum. One example is Episciences, an overlay journal platform that publishes open-access journals directly from preprint repositories and connects with open archives such as arXiv, HAL, and Zenodo. Why it matters: These models lower publishing costs, widen access to research, and support more flexible, community-driven approaches to peer review and dissemination.
